Historic clipping file 1930-1994

The collection consists of clippings, excerpts and transcriptions from newspaper, magazine, book and journal articles collected by the Libraryʼs staff. The primary source of news clippings (through 1994) is the Monterey Herald, but many clippings derive from other local materials. These sources include the Carmel Cymbal and Pine Cone, Game ? newsletters; pamphlets; press releases; Library reference notes; and typescript copies of the WPAʼs 1937 Historical Resources Survey of the Monterey Peninsula. Substantial portions of the files consist of biographical materials on regional authors, artists, and community leaders.

Many of the clippings were compiled during the 1930s and 1940s. These were incorporated into the present file dating from the 1950s, with the staff making substantial additions until the file was closed to clippings from the Monterey County Herald in 1995.
